Exactly one year today post surgery - and I'm back in business!

One year post-surgery! Can this really be true? I can remember so well the fear of going into theatre 4, still wondering if I was making the right decision and then the huge relief when I woke up with my knee neatly bandaged and the nurse bringing me sandwiches and biscuits. Seven weeks off work – and months of recovery - ensued.

If someone had told me I’d be dancing in front of the world in the Paralympics Opening Ceremony, rehearsing high kicks, lifts and timesteps for my next musical production, as well as taking up tap dance classes again, all in less than a year, I’d have been hopeful but actually would have thought they were slightly mad.

Yet, quite unbelievably, all the above has happened.

The Paralympics Opening Ceremony was incredible. Walking out into the stadium and performing in front of 80,000 people as well as the millions around the world, was one of the most exhilarating experiences I’ve ever had and I’m so grateful I was recovered enough to be part of it. And rehearsals for my next show 'Curtains' are well underway. The dancing is very energetic and quite exhausting but I’m having so much fun. And this week I went back to tap class. It was brilliant and, even though my knee was a bit on the sore side afterwards, it won’t put me off going again.

Me on the right about to perform on the world stage.

What a fantastic summer I’ve had compared to last year! Happy first birthday to my amazing new bionic knee!
